The Artist

Mira Nicole van Rhoon

Mira Nicole van Rhoon

Artist / Designer

Born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in 1966, Mira Nicole Van Rhoon is an accomplished artist and designer with a rich artistic lineage. She is the proud daughter of Hans van Rhoon and J.M. (Hanneke) Penninx, and her roots in creativity extend deep into her family tree.

Artistic Lineage

Her grandmother, Jacoba J. van Rhoon nee Hellendoorn, was not only a graduate of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie but also an avid photographer with her own darkroom, embodying the spirit of innovation that Mira carries forward. Further drawing from her family’s artistic reservoir, Mira’s great uncle, Eduard Hellendoorn, was a notable painter and resistance fighter, whose studies at the Royal Academy of Art and exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in 1939 have left a lasting legacy. Moreover, her great grandfather, Jacobus J. Hellendoorn’s architectural genius, has been a beacon of inspiration.

Self-Taught Mastery

Despite her acceptance into the prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academie and an Industrial Design Drawing School, unforeseen family circumstances led Mira down a path of self-taught mastery and experimentation. Her approach to art and design is characterized by a remarkable ability to repurpose materials, giving them a new lease on life. This ingenuity, combined with her knack for anticipating trends, underscores her contributions to the field.

Canvas Work During the Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic became an unexpected opportunity for Mira to delve into working on canvas, resulting in a portfolio that is as diverse as it is profound. Her travels, spanning continents from Europe to Australia and beyond, have enriched her perspective. These experiences have influenced her work, integrating elements of architecture, fashion, cuisine, music, and the essence of daily life across cultures. Mira’s passion for photography has captured countless moments and inspirations, further fueling her creative process.

Connection with Nature

At heart, Mira finds solace and inspiration in nature, particularly the serene beauty of empty beaches where she collects shells. Like a fish in water, her affinity for the sea is a testament to her deep connection with the natural world, which continually influences her art and design philosophy.
